The Richest Rubber Man
Kuan Kam Hon is the eleventh richest man in Malaysia. With a net worth of slightly more than $1 billion, the self made billionaire is known for his business mostly in synthetic gloves. The man responsible for building up Hartalega, Kuan’s synthetic glove company is the largest and probably most efficient where it can make about 45,000 gloves every hour.
As of 2015, Hartalega’s business has surpassed the likes of Top Glove, once the largest player in this market. With 6 plants producing rubber gloves, there seems to be no looking back for Kuan who started out in 1969. Then, he was working with Kuan Yen & Sons, his father’s property development company. It was only around the 1980s that he ventured into the rubber glove industry and the rest as they say, is history.
As the largest synthetic glove manufacturer in the world, Hartalega’s main market is North America which makes up a large portion of the company’s revenue.
