In a statement, the rating agency said the Green Bond Award recognised bonds or sukuk which financed projects with the highest RAM environmental-benefit rating, contributing towards Malaysia’s renewable energy and emission reduction commitments.
Mudajaya Group Bhd’s unit, Sinar Kamiri Sdn Bhd, was the inaugural recipient of the award for its green solar sukuk.
“The company’s solar photovoltaic power generation project is highly beneficial for the environment, as it has a much smaller carbon footprint compared to fossil fuel-enabled power production,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Sustainable Company Award acknowledged innovative companies which practised sustainability in every aspect of their business.
The award was presented to Cenviro Sdn Bhd – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd – in recognition of its sustainable waste management efforts through innovative practices in waste minimisation and recovery, as well the conversion of waste into energy. — Bernama
